A week at the airport
Frankly speaking, I never read Alain de Botton's novel.
But this one: A week at the airport: A Heathrow Diary changes my mind.
Alain de Botton is a famous writer and has many great books.
This time, he is invited to stay in Heathrow airport for a week
and write a book about it. What an interesting idea.
This is not just a novel; this is story, and this is life.
I was inspired by the title, even the contents.
A week at the airport, what did you know about it?
How do you figure out inside the Big subject(aircraft),
how many people make their living with it?
I can't help but wonder: have I ever stopped a moment and
think when I am in the space of the airport?
The answer probably No.
When in Lille, I saw the movie "Up in the Air", Ryan is a
guy who almost lives in the air, or by the air. It's coincidently
corresponded to thie book in some way.
Alain used his imaginative and creative perspective to
describe or even makeup every story, true or not, it doesn't matter.
What matters is the meaning inside this tiny story. The details
seem simple, but sometimes they just touch the deepest part of your heart.
I was impressed by one story, where the location is in front
of the boarding gate. The young couple is saying goodbye.
Seemed it's the end of the world, because who knows when they
will see each other next time. At that moment, you suddenly
realize any fight or any quarrel is meaningless.
I cried, after seeing this part. Leaving is always the hardest
thing for lovers, even I was imfluenced strongly by it.
Just my story happened on the train.
This is not a big book, but it can be one for you to read again
and again. Maybe when you are traveling next time, you will take
a look of the airport, and think of your story then.
My highly recomendation.
